How I Found My Portland Forever Home (And You Can Too)

I’ve owned 2 primary homes. One was my starter home that I bought a long time ago. I remember talking to the home inspector and telling him that we intended to live there for at least 10 years. He immediately scoffed at the idea and said “I’m 100% positive that you’ll be trading up within 3 years!”

Well, this was about 7 years before the financial meltdown that led to the recession. We did end up staying there for around 10 years, so my prognostic abilities beat out my home inspector. Of course, had the recession not happened, we may have decided to trade up sooner, but it still would have been at least 7-8 years.

Now, we’re happily ensconced in our forever home :)

An Oregon Home Landscape Comes to Life: Part 1

I may be jumping the gun a little with this blog, but I’m excited about a personal project I’ve got going on and wanted to share how it came to life and where we’re at with it.

This will be a 2, possibly 3 part blog. I swear I’m not trying to pull an “Avengers: Infinity War” here (my partner was shocked at the cliff-hanger ending. He may have been the only one in America that was!)

I enjoy playing real life poker (not the online games). I now only play an occasional home game for fun, but my poker skills have translated beautifully to the negotiation table.

The ability to intelligently and effectively negotiate is arguably the most important skill for a real estate agent to develop. Unfortunately, very few people give it any thought until they're in the middle of a transaction when the stakes are at their highest.

Oh yeah, I am absolutely going to litter this article with poker metaphors. Sorry... not sorry.

Let's talk about some negotiation tactics that might just help you successfully buy or sell a home and maximize your likelihood of a "good deal".

Welcome to my new website! 

I developed this site for several reasons:

  1. I'm a big fan of websites that clearly state what a company or person does. If you don't know what I do from reading a couple of sentences into the home page, then I'm doing it wrong!
  2. A broker is someone that you place a large amount of trust and confidence in so it makes sense to get a feel for that person before interviewing and hiring them. While social media is a good start, a website written by the broker gives a great sense of who they are and what they can do for you.
  3. As I continue to develop this website, I will add resources and articles that will be useful for current home owners, buyers, and sellers.
  4. My Contact page should have all the information you need to get in touch with me. I am comfortable with a variety of communication preferences. I hope to hear from you!
